RUBY CHEN (b. 2001) explores the paradoxes and concept of relativity that define our world. Through a wide array of mediums, she constructs tangible forms that grapple with intangible ideological pursuits. Plaster and charcoal play a prominent role in Chen’s practices, with a visual inclination towards futuristic brutalism. By harmonizing the inherently contradictory materials and aesthetics, her work explores the human inclination to be in constant chase for the opposite extreme. Through objectifying the conflict and rebellion brought by the corrupt capitalistic system in her body of work, the artist dreams of an utopian ideal of socialist reintegration.
